FAQs

How does therapy work? What can I expect in the first session?

Because each person has different issues and goals for therapy, therapy will be different depending on the individual or couple. I tailor my therapeutic approach to your specific needs.
The initial assessment/session will begin with basic paperwork or a review of paperwork filled out online. Once that is finished, I will discuss what currently brings you into therapy and any presenting issues/concerns. I will then answer any questions you may have and share with you my approach and style. After that, you will discuss initial therapeutic goals and treatment. If you determine that I am a good fit for you then you will schedule your next appointment.
How frequent are Visits?

Typically clients attend therapy once a week. However, I believe in making therapy work for you. In these circumstances, therapy can occur more or less frequently to best accommodate your needs.

How long are sessions?

Therapy sessions are usually 53 minutes long depending on your insurance and time constraints.

Is what I talk about in therapy Confidential?

Yes. Illinois law protects the confidentiality between client and therapist. The only exceptions to this would be to maintain safety in circumstances where you intend to hurt yourself, such as suicide, or if you intend bodily harm or to hurt others as well as instances of child and/or elder abuse. In these situations I may be required to break confidentiality to ensure everyone’s safety.

Do you prescribe medication?

Although I do not prescribe medication, I collaborate with psychiatrists in the area if we decide that medication treatment is beneficial.

What happens if I need to reschedule or cancel an appointment?

Please contact me immediately if you need to change or cancel your appointment. 24 hours notice is required to cancel or reschedule any appointment unless otherwise discussed. Failure to do so will result in a $100 late cancellation fee.
